Firefly

Gina Torres was known as Zoe Alleyne Washburne on the television series Firefly.  Her character was the second-in-command onboard Serenity, wife of Wash, and loyal friend of Captain Reynolds.  Noted for being a “warrior woman,” she exuded great knowledge of combat.  She lingered on until the end of the series with a total appearance of 14 episodes.

After her stint on Firefly, Gina Torres continued to work on television shows.  Although she often landed minor or supporting roles, her characters were recurrently visible for several episodes.  Her credits include The Guardian as Sadie, Alias as Anna Espinosa, 24 as Julia Milliken, and The Shield as Sadie.

She was one of the four actors from Firefly who voiced superheroes on the animated series Justice League.  Gina Torres provided the voice of Vixen, while costar Adam Baldwin voiced Hal Jordan, Nathan Fillion voiced the Vigilante, and Morena Baccarin voiced Black Canary.

Simultaneously, she was featured in a number of movies.  She was cast in the action-thriller The Matrix Revolutions and in the romantic comedy Hair Show.  She was also able to reprise her TV character Zoe in the film Serenity.

At present, she appears as one of the principle cast members on the drama series Standoff.  She portrays the character Cheryl Carrera, along with Ron Livingston, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Michael Cudlitz.

Later this year, she will be featured in the silver screen in the movie South of Pico.  Directed by Ernst Gossner, the drama is about four strangers who seek emotional connections in their lives as they repeatedly face failure.  However, fate looms them together as witnesses to a terrifying accident where they discover an unusual yet violent instance of human bonding.  She stars as Carla Silva, joining Kip Pardue, Henry Simmons, and Soren Fulton.
