Fear the Walking Dead premieres Sunday, August 23 but AMC has a sneak peek for the zombie faithful. The Walking Dead spin-off has released the first three minutes of its inaugural episode online. Though Fear the Walking Dead is a prequel set at the onset of the apocalypse, the opening moments look like it will promise to bring as much horror as its big brother.

The clip embedded below starts eerily similar to The Walking Dead. Frank Dilliane’s character, Nick, wakes up to a bloody world that he doesn’t understand. Nick is in a suitably creepy abandoned church and alone looking for someone named Gloria. In his search to find her, Nick discovers several gruesome sights (and dead bodies) it’s clear he rather not see. When Nick finally does reach Gloria It’s safe to assume that she doesn’t look like she did when he last saw her. You can watch for yourself though:

WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVE: #FearBeginsHere this Sunday at 9/8c.

Fear the Walking Dead promises to be a gritty drama that explores the beginning of the zombie apocalypse through the eyes of a blended family. Taking place in Los Angeles, Fear the Walking Dead has said it will explore how the city which many people come to for escape crumbles when faced with a devastating and mysterious outbreak. Leading Fear the Walking Dead are Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis. The two veteran actors play a couple, Madison Clark and Travis Manawa. Madison is the guidance counselor and the local high school and Travis works there as well, as an English teacher. The zombie outbreak will threaten the life they’ve have so recently tried to put together.

Fear the Walking Dead also stars Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris. Fear The Walking is executive produced by comic creator, Robert Kirkman, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and the showrunner David Erickson.

The special 90-minute pilot of Fear the Walking Dead will be written by Robert Kirkman and David Erickson. Adam Davidson will direct the episode.

Are you excited by the sneak peek? Do you think Fear the Walking Dead has the capability to be every bit as popular as The Walking Dead? Are you ready to meet a whole new group of potential survivors or just waiting for Rick and Glenn to show up?

Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
