Former NFL Super Bowl Champion John Albert Elway, Jr. was born on June 28, 1960 in Port Angeles, Washington. He is the son of football coach John Elway and as a young man, he lived in Grays Harbor, Washington, Missoula, Montana, and Pullman, Washington, before moving to southern California when he was sixteen. He was educated at Stanford University where he played football and baseball. Elway had an accomplished college career and in 1980, he won Pac-10 Player of the Year honors. Twenty years later, he was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. In 1983, he was selected as first choice for the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. Before that, he already played two summers of minor league baseball for the New York Yankees organization. However, he didn't think he would be successful with the Colts so he had himself traded into the Denver Broncos. After a string of successes, Elway finally retired from professional football in 1999, at the age of 38. His later projects include his participation in the ABC reality series Fast Cars and Superstars: The Gillette Young Guns Celebrity Race.
