Fast Cars and Superstars Headed for a Crash?

fast cars and superstarsABC's weird twist on Dancing With the Stars, Fast Cars and Superstars, has celebrities from all walks of life walking onto the speedway to be trained as race car drivers.   The series has consistently delivered in the 6-9m viewer range since debuting.   Unconventional scheduling has the show appearing three times a week on ABC's schedule; Tues, Thursday, and Sunday.  That is asking for a huge time investment from reality TV fans, especially considering that Fast Cars and Superstars is an unproven commodity.

Luckily the experiment is mercifully short, with six half hour installments and a one hour finale that will feature a time trial race between the celebrities.  The question is, will there be anybody left watching the show?

So far, some interesting moments have occurred, but they are few and far between.  The contests range from intriguing to strange include singer Jewel, actor William Shatner, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, actress Krista Allen, seven-time World All-Around Rodeo Champion Ty Murray, former NBA Champion John Salley, former NFL Super Bowl Champion John Elway, World Wrestling Entertainment Champion John Cena, tennis star Serena Williams, volleyball great and model Gabrielle Reece, legendary surfer Laird Hamilton and former NFL Super Bowl-winning Head Coach Bill Cowher.

The stars are trained by the infamous Gillette Young Guns on authentic Nascar courses.  Every effort is made to make the action look exciting, but it is clear that the show is being very very careful with its celebrity commodities.  I still haven't figured out what a "Time Trial" race is supposed to look like, but if it involves getting all these guys on the track at one time, have the paramedics on standby.
