Farmer Wants a Wife

The CW is helping one charming and hard-working farmer find romance through a new reality series called Farmer Wants a Wife.  The show, which is based on a successful British program of the same name, will present the single farm boy with 10 beautiful women, all whom have are fed up with big city dating and looking to give the simple life a try.

As with any reality dating series, the ladies will have to go through several challenges, including taking care of farm animals and driving tractor, in order to show just how well (or unwell) they can adapt to life at a farm.  The women will also be able to see just how compatible they are with the “back-roads” guy by going on various romantic dates.

"[Farmer Wants a Wife has] got a lot of humor in it," Dawn Ostroff, the President of Entertainment of The CW, told Daily Variety.  "And I think it's the right time to do another dating show with a spin on it.  Beauty and the Geek has a lot of humor in it, and this is in the same vein."

The series is from Fremantle Media, the production company behind the hit reality series American Idol, and Super Delicious LLC.  Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Adam Cohen, Cara Tapper and Joanna Vernetti are executive-producing the show's debut run, which consists of 8 episodes that are filmed on a ranch in a span of 21 days.

Farmer Wants a Wife already has numerous foreign counterparts.  After the original debuted in the UK in 2001, more than ten localized versions sprung, although not all turned out to be ratings winner for their respective networks.  The Australian and Estonian editions of the series premiered last year.

Casting for the U.S. version of Farmer Wants a Wife has been ongoing for some time, both for the eligible bachelor and his ten potential mates.  Show officials have been scouring the country, looking for the farmer who is most deserving of the chance to find love via a reality series, but Fremantle Media casting producer Becky Cattie admitted that she would very much like to see a man from the Heartland on Farmer Wants a Wife.

"We're open to anything, don't want to stereotype, but we love the idea of the Midwest," Cattie told the Reporter Times.

Farmer Wants a Wife is expected to hit the airwaves this Spring.
