Family Guy: Seth MacFarlane Planning a Spin-Off

family guyAs reported previously, Family Guy has already helped inspire the show Phineas and Ferb.  And now, the FOX hit series has reportedly spawned a spin-off based on one of its characters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, FOX is currently developing a Family Guy spin-off that revolves around Peter Griffin's bathtub-accident-prone neighbor, Cleveland Brown.  On Family Guy, Cleveland is one of the few African-American characters that recurrently appears on the show.  He owns a delicatessen named Cleveland's Deli and is described to be the most levelheaded among Griffin's trio of friends.

The impending project, tentatively titled Cleveland, is being written by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry, who voices Cleveland and serves as writer-producer on the series, and The Simpsons alum Rich Appel, who also serves as executive producer on MacFarlane's other animated comedy for FOX, American Dad.

If the Family Guy spin-off makes it on the air, many are expecting that it would be a prime fit on FOX's Sunday night lineup given that the network has made it a priority to find another hit animated comedy to join The Simpsons, which airs at 8/7c, Family Guy, which airs at 9/8c, and American Dad, which airs at 9:30/8:30c.

Aside from Cleveland, FOX has several cartoons in the works, including an animated version of its 2003 short-lived live-action comedy The Pitts from Simpsons veteran Mike Scully, Relative Insanity from executive producer Jack Black, and Mothballs, from Drawn Together creators Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser.

As of the moment, plot details and a possible premiere date for the Family Guy spin-off have not yet been revealed.

Meanwhile, fans can catch reruns of Family Guy every Sunday on FOX.  On tonight's episode called “McStroke,” Peter decides to grow a mustache but then he is mistaken for a fireman.  He lends a helping hand when a fire breaks out at a local fast food restaurant and ends up saving the day.  As a reward, the owner gives him unlimited burgers, but this eventually leads to a stroke.

Are you excited to see the Family Guy spin-off?
Yes, I can’t wait!
I'd rather watch Family Guy.
I wish the spin-off centered on another character.
