The writing staff of
Family Guy has come back to work. After an almost three month break/delay/boycott, Seth MacFarlane has wrangled up his writers and they've gotten back to work on creating some comically insane episodes of
Family Guy. MacFarlane and FOX have been renegotiating their contract and, while they haven't seemed to have reached a formal agreement as of yet, the fact that production is being resumed is a good sign.
Ever since
South Park satirized
Family Guy in a two-part episode last year, there has been some notable
Family Guy backlash, especially on the internet and in the media. While Trey Parker and Matt Stone may have legitimate arguments about
Family Guy (it's formulaic, easy to produce, the animation is mediocre, the jokes don't have anything to do with the story, etc.), they are largely moot points.
If a show like
Family Guy makes you laugh, then they've done their job. End of story. A show doesn't need to strive for substance, especially an animated comedy.
South Park and
The Simpsons are far better shows than
Family Guy, but often not nearly as funny.
Family Guy's plot lines are besides the point.
MacFarlane bringing his writers back to work is good news for fans of animated comedy. While
Family Guy may be hit and miss, there aren't many things funnier than a great
Family Guy episode.
