Popularity seems to mean everything, at least for high school kids in TV land and the teenagers in MTV's new series Faking It
are no exception. Enter Amy and Karma, BFFs who are practically invisible at school until they are mistakenly outed as lesbians and suddenly find themselves at the center of everyone's attention.
When Shane, the most popular gay in school, accidentally exposes Amy and Karma as lesbians, the two very straight outsiders rocket into fame. Hooked on their newfound celebrity status, they now have to prove to everyone that they are in a romantic relationship.
While the premise of Faking It may sound shallow and controversial, the show is already generating buzz even before its premiere because of the great lengths Karma and Amy are willing to go through just to keep up their lesbian charade, including kissing each other in front of the entire school. Watch the video below for a sneak peek:
And while keeping up the romantic ruse is a challenging feat on its own, Amy and Karma have to deal with complications when the two best friends find themselves falling for Shane's straight best friend Liam, who seems to be falling for Karma. Soon Karma will be forced to choose between her best friend and her crush.
Faking It stars Katie Stevens, who finished in eighth place on the ninth season of American Idol, as high school sophomore Karma Ashcroft while Rita Volk, who is credited for her role in The Hungover Games, stars as Karma's cynical best friend Amy Raudenfeld. Also featured are Michael Willett (United Stats of Tara) as Shane Harvey, Gregg Sulkin (Pretty Little Liars and Wizards of Waverly Place) as Liam Booker, and Bailey Buntain (Bunheads) as Lauren Cooper.
