CBS is expanding its original scripted drama offerings this summer with the new Halle Berry-fronted show, Extant. It's joining Under the Dome which will be airing its second season starting in June on Monday nights.

Extant is available on Amazon Prime.

Extant comes from Steven Spielberg. At the CBS TCA Winter Tour, CBS President Nina Tassler described it as "just the perfect melding of classic Spielberg genres. It's science fiction, and it's family."

CBS previewed a short clip which provided a little more insight into the event series. Halle Berry plays an astronaut, Molly, who has been in space for over a year. When she returns to Earth, she has a big secret -- she's pregnant.

She already had one child that her genius husband created -- an android kid named Ethan. And this new baby is a threat to her son for some reason.

The trailer posed a few questions that the series will address. "Can you give a machine a soul?" "What does the baby mean for humanity?"

As previously announced, Berry will be joined by Pierce Gagnon (Looper) who will be playing her son and Camryn Manheim who will play Sam Barton, Molly's best friend.

Are you excited for new sci-fi family drama? Will you tune in this summer?

Extant premieres on Wednesday, July 2 at 9 pm ET on CBS.
