Last week on MTV’s
Exiled, we saw
Amanda head to Kenya, where she learned quite a lot of life lessons that she took with her back home. Now that she is safe inside her native land once again, the 18-year-old former spoiled brat shares with us some of her insights regarding her experience half way around the world.
Before that, however, let’s take a look at the Amanda who reluctantly left home for the wilderness in Kenya. Two years ago on
My Super Sweet 16, Amanda had a Polynesian-themed birthday party, which was topped with a performance by R&B Singer Ciara. Her $200,000-worth bash, however, went awry when her limo broke down and she had to be driven up in an ordinary car. Because of this, she gets into a fight with her father. Two years later, Amanda still lives the life of a spoiled brat as she puts off her education and depends on her parents’ cash to survive. Seeing this, her father sends her to Kenya, Africa, where she is to survive alone.
Amanda’s stay in Africa consisted of residence huts made of cow dung, animal skin beds and a ton of chores, which include a 20-kilometer walk back and forth to fetch drinking water. Top that off with the task of building a hut out of cow dung and a ceremonial event in which the tribe’s people slaughter a goat and later drink its blood.
Things turn out well later, though, when she bonded with some of the tribe’s people, talking about sexism and engaging in dance. Amanda also talked about American culture, showing them some magazines, candy and hair spray.
Amanda was truly touched when she attended a little ceremony that welcomed her into the tribe. She was given the native name of Nadupoi, which means awareness.
It seems that things are well now for Amanda, who has come home with a newfound inspiration to study and work at her own will. In fact, her family and friends think that she totally had a 180-degree change in attitude.
Check out the video below for a peek into the life of the renewed Amanda.
