Joe Morton, well known in the SCI-FI universe as
Eureka's resident reclusive genius, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiation to join a new star-studded motion picture. Should the
Eureka actor eventually sign on, he will be in stellar company with some of finest contemporary character actors.
Ray Liotta of
Goodfellas,
Hannibal,
Blow and most recently,
Wild Hogs, headlines the film,
La Linea, which is loosely based on the story of Arellano Felix's drug empire. The movie will also feature
Esai Morales of
La Bamba,
NYPD Blue and
Vanished along with
Valerie Cruz from
Nip/Tuck,
Hidden Palms and
The Dresden Files.
La Linea tells the story of a drug ring lieutenant rising in the cartel ranks. Morales plays the upstart in charge of operations who eventually becomes a loose cannon. Emmy Award winner Liotta is a Los Angeles-based assassin hired to take out Morales' boss, to be played by the versatile and multi-talented Andy Garcia. Rounding off the known character assignments, Valerie Cruz will essay the role of a meth junkie named Olivia, who struggles to kick her habit for the sake of her young daughter.
Aside from Liotta, Garcia, Morales and Cruz who are already confirmed for the film, other actors close to coming on board are Emmy awardee, Armand Assante, frequent villain Danny Trejo and Sean Connery's son, Jason. Like
Eureka's Joe Morton, they are also in the concluding stages of contract talks for the project.
La Linea was penned by R. Ellis Frazier and will be directed by James Cotton. Aside from writing the script, Frazier is also co-producer along with Geoffrey Ross. Production is set to commence next month in Tijuana, Mexico and Los Angeles.
In the meantime, you can catch Joe Morton on
Eureka, which is currently in its second season.
Eureka airs on the SCI-FI Channel Tuesdays at 9pm.
