Just as Sci-fi changes its name to Syfy, our favorite genius-filled small town Eureka is set to return to the network this Friday to continue its third season which was cut off in the fall. To kick off the 10-episode return, the episode "Welcome Back Carter" will reportedly feature a "unique problem" in the midst of Carter's redaction, where he can't help but get involved.
Talking about Eureka's much anticipated return, executive producer Jaime Paglia tells E! Online that a new antagonist in the sci-fi series may surprise fans, but it's not necessarily a person at all.
"We wanted it to be something different, and to tie into a historical aspect of our characters and the town on a personal level. So instead of it being necessarily a person, it's a thing. We don't know what it is. The question is, is it from out there? Is it man-made? But it's coming toward
Eureka, and we have to deal with it. And that allows us to bring in some new characters."
As for the romantic aspect of the show,
Eureka star Colin Ferguson reveals that his Jack Carter might find a new love interest in the person of new character Dr. Tess Fontana (Jaime Ray Newman), throwing his relationship with Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) into further confusion. The man who plays the sheriff of the small town says it will be a "nice change of pace - to be receiving and giving love -- [in contrast to the] relationship with Allison, which is unrequited and... confused most of the time."
Paglia agrees and adds that the new character will be an "honest love interest for Carter."
"We always intended that to be a potential future. It may take a long time to get there, and it's not going to be the same road that has traveled in the alternate timeline we saw at the end of season one," he sums up.
