Best known for his appearance on ER, Noah Wyle was the only cast member of the medical drama to have been with the show from the beginning of the series in 1994 until the 2004-2005 season. For a total of eleven consecutive seasons, he played the role of Dr. John Carter, which earned several Screen Actors Guild Awards and a number of Emmy Award nominations. He decided to exit from the show at the conclusion of season 11 but was invited back for a four-episode arc in season 12. Despite offers, he decided not to return on season 13.

After a lengthy stretch on ER, Wyle was given the opportunity to lead his own series entitled The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines. As the lead, he earned a nomination from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films for Best Actor in a Television Program. He starred as Flynn Carsen, the librarian-turned adventurer on a quest to find the mines of King Solomon, who also discovers a secret about his own family’s past. The cast included Gabrielle Anwar as Emily Davenport, Bob Newhart as Judson, Jane Curtin as Charlene, Olympia Dukakis as Margie Carsen, Erick Avari as General Samir, Hakeem Kae-Kazim as Jomo, and Robert Foxworth as Uncle Jerry among others.

Wyle is currently working on a film entitled Boy of Pigs, in which he portrays the character Mike Stafford. Set in the 1960s, the said film explores how President John F. Kennedy's Washington turned into Camelot, while following the life of a lonely 13-year-old Catholic schoolboy. The cast also includes Gretchen Mol as Catherine Caswell, James Rebhorn as Lucian Carver, Cameron Bright as Adam Stafford, Perrey Reeves as Adrienne Stafford and Mark Pellegrino as Graham Caswell. In addition, he devotes his free time to Doctors of the World, an international non-profit organization.
