We’ve been talking a lot about the fact that
ER’s current season it its last season. And, the way it’s going, we’ve been a witness to a long farewell on all fronts. We’ve seen some former cast members return for guest stints on the long-running medical drama, with some more on the way. Also, if you’ve checked the show’s website, they’ve also begun to look back at the show’s storied run—memorable storylines, unforgettable characters and, of course, the requisite photographs and videos from seasons past.
It does feel like that goodbye will never end, isn’t it? Of course, it’s a goodbye—it’s got to end at one point. Finally, a date has been set: NBC just announced that
ER will air its two-hour season finale on March 12 at 9pm.
This is part of a slew of announcements the network has made regarding its post-Super Bowl schedule. Although no details about that episode has been announced yet, I’ll go as far as to say it’ll be a jerker of some sort, perhaps to tie everything in. Maybe it’ll be a scene as memorable as, say, the death of Mark Greene (which almost moved me to tears when I watched it on YouTube at a hunch).
What’s also interesting is the show that will replace
ER. The replacement drama is called
Kings, and the network describes it as a contemporary retelling of the David and Goliath tale set in a modern-day monarchy.
Ian McShane, Chris Egan and
Sebastian Stan star in the drama which will kick off with a two-hour premiere on March 19, a week after
ER bids farewell, also at 9pm. While part of me wonders whether it’ll be a good replacement, or whether it’ll fall on the wayside like many of NBC’s freshman programs—
My Own Worst Enemy, anyone?—I think it can stand on its own.
ER isn’t going anywhere yet, though, so here’s a sneak at tonight’s episode, entitled “Let It Snow”. Tonight, Neela (
Parminder Nagra) testifies in court after a patient she was in charge of bled out and died. Alex (Dominic Jones) and Sarah (Chloe Greenfield) will get involved in a car accident after doing something they shouldn’t have. And, as the title somewhat suggests, someone will get snowed in. The long farewell continues tonight from 10pm ET on NBC.
