Anthony Edwards Rushes Back to 'ER'

NBC’s ER is coming to a close and production is rounding up the best actors and actresses who have graced the show’s previous seasons to come back for a guest stint.  In fact, we previously reported that season 15 will be very star-studded, with stars such as Angela Bassett, who will play Dr. Cate Banfield, a replacement for Kari Matchett’s outgoing character, Dr. Skye Wexler.  Moreover, her real-life husband Courtney B. Vance will be playing her on-screen hubby, Russell Banfield.

More interestingly, NBC has announced that another familiar face will be returning to appear in a scene with Angela Bassett.  TV Guide reports that Anthony Edwards, who originally played Dr. Mark Greene, is set to come back to reprise his role and help shed light on Bassett’s Dr. Cate Banfield’s past.

Contrary to what others may think, Edwards is not coming back to haunt the living, like some characters in soap operas.  In fact, Dr. Greene, who was last seen in May 2002 prior to his death by brain tumor, is set to appear in the November 13 episode, where he will be appearing in a series of flashbacks.  Edwards will begin shooting next week the particular episode in which Angela Bassett first arrives at the County General Hospital as a patient, and not a doctor. Dr. Greene will be her attending doctor on the episode entitled “Heal Thyself.”  The episode is written by ER executive producer David Zabel, who will also be directing the episode.

Fans will be glad to know that aside from Anthony Edwards, Noah Wyle will also be returning as Dr. John Carter for four episodes this 15th season.  While most fans are still rooting for George Clooney to come back to the series for the final season, no news has been confirmed whether or not the 47-year-old Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning actor will be coming back as the famous Dr. Doug Ross.
