Recently, HBO announced that it is renewing its Hollywood-themed series
Entourage for a sixth season. "
Entourage is that rare phenomenon in TV: a smart, sharp comedy series that continues to evolve. Doug Ellin and his remarkable team consistently deliver a show that's must-see viewing," said HBO president of the programming group and west coast operations Michael Lombardo.
For his part,
Entourage executive producer and sort of inspiration Mark Wahlberg said he wasn't surprised at all that the series has lasted this long and has remained strong.
“I always thought we were going to be able to go on as long as we wanted to, and that it would be a phenomenon. People thought that I was crazy. But I knew that . . . people are fascinated with this world of Hollywood, and we're still going for the traditional sitcom. You know, four friends, everybody can identify with one of them.”
In another interview, Wahlberg, who will play the lead in the upcoming video game-inspired film Max Payne, said he thinks
Entourage will go on for another three or four seasons, perhaps culminating in season 10. He also mentioned the
Sex and the City movie, thinking the box office hit could be a precursor to more HBO series being turned into movies.
"
Sex and the City has obviously opened up the potential for doing a nice big movie after. Anything is possible now. The wheels are definitely turning. Rhea (Durham, his fiancée) made me sit through
Sex and the City the movie, so I want to make her sit through
Entourage,” he said.
Speaking of numbers, Wahlberg said he sees himself with at least nine kids. After all, he is the youngest of nine. “As long as mummy can take it,” he said with a smile.
