I knew I was going to love HBO’s
Entourage from the minute I heard its premise: A young movie star, originally from Queens, rises to the top of his career and takes his friends along with him from the ride. When the show debuted in 2004, they promised a ton of A-list guest stars appearing as themselves and they didn’t disappoint. They came in strong in season 1 with Mark Wahlberg (who also executive produces the show), Luke Wilson, Scarlett Johannson, and lots more. Over the years, we’ve seen Amanda Peet, Hugh Hefner, James Cameron, U2, Brooke Shields, James Woods, Seth Green, and Ed Burns, and it seems no celebrity would turn down the chance to poke a little fun at themselves on
Entourage. The show is the only reason I subscribe to HBO and it’s well worth whatever the heck my cable company charges me each month for it!
I don’t watch
Entourage for Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), though he is nice to look at. Personally, I’d want to run away with Eric (Kevin Connolly), but that’s jut me. No, I watch Entourage for the scene stealing Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) and his assistant and sidekick, Lloyd (Rex Lee). The words that come out of Ari Gold’s mouth each week are some of the funniest things I’ve heard in my life and several notable people in Hollywood have said that the fictitious agent reminds them of some real life ones they’ve encountered.
It’s been a year since we last hung out with the boys from Queens. To refresh your memory, in season 4, Vince works to get a studio to pick up
Medellin, a film that he and Eric have funded themselves in order to get made. Eric continues to make a name for himself as an agent and picks up Anna Faris as his latest client but she’s more of a headache than a help to his career. Drama tries to regain some Hollywood fame by joining a show produced by Ed Burns, but he will always be that guy from Viking Quest. As for Turtle, well, he’s always got a money or love making scheme up his sleeve but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The boys from
Entourage seem likes ones you could know in real life, ones that would show you a good time, and definitely make you laugh. Their more than 50 nominations for Emmys, Golden Globes, and more, have been more than well deserved. Saying that you don’t have HBO is not a reason enough not to watch
Entourage. If anything, it should motivate you to become a subscriber. The new season kicks off September 7 so cash in your can, sell something on EBAY, hustle people on the streets, or do whatever it is that you need to do to have HBO hooked up in your house and
Entourage on your tv screen on Sunday nights.
