The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are this Sunday at 8pm on CBS.  Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, it looks like two shows will have a stranglehold on the night: Mad Men for Drama and 30 Rock for Comedy, both coming in with an overwhelming lead in total nominations.

MY PREDICTION: 30 Rock
Last year the Emmys crowned 30 Rock and creator Tina Fey the top comedy, and this year, it will retain its crown.  Hands down, 30 Rock is the very definition of Outstanding Comedy Series.



LEAD ACTOR:
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Jemaine Clement, Flight of the Conchords
Tony Shalhoub, Monk
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Steve Carell, The Office
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

MY PREDICTION: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
I'm rooting as hard as I possibly can for Jim Parsons, who in all fairness should've also been nominated and won last year.  But I suspect 30 Rock is the 10-ton behemoth and it will take something very special (like being a beloved gay former child star a la Doogie) to knock 30 Rock out of the running for a Comedy Emmy.

MY PREDICTION: Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Last year Fey won three Emmys for writing, acting and producing.  Then in 2009 she went on to win the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild, Wrtiers Guild and even People's Choice Awards for her work on 30 Rock.  She also just won an Emmy last week for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her stint as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live.  I pity anyone who tries to get between Fey and the microphone on Emmy night.

MY PREDICTION: Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
He's hosting the damn show, so not giving it to him would be an insult.  Also, Barney Stinson is awesome.

MY PREDICTION: Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
The SNL ladies both deserve to win, but this season 30 Rock turned Jane Krakowski from the most superfluous character on TV into one of the funniest, especially with the fake Janis Joplin biopic storyline.

MY PREDICTION: "Reunion," 30 Rock
There are a lot of great 30 Rock episodes to choose from, but for my money, "I want to go to there" was the single funniest line of the season, and it came in this episode.

MY PREDICTION: "Tree Trippers," Entourage
Even if you thought Entourage has become unwatchable and Jeremy Piven is lame, this episode where the gang visits Joshua Tree while shrooming is pretty darn spectacular and beautifully crafted.
