Nominations for the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were released today and the academy showed the love to HBO, giving the network 86 nominations, and giving
Entourage seven, including the show's first Outstanding Comedy Series nomination up against
The Office, 30 Rock, Two and a Half Men and Ugly Betty. The show stands a good chance but will need to prevail over defending champ,
The Office and popular
Ugly Betty.
The episode “One Day In The Valley” was nominated for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. In the season 3 episode, Vince and his boys head to the Valley to screen
Aquaman, in order to avoid being recognized. The blackouts caused by the intense heat screw up the west-coast box office numbers so while they're waiting for the news, Vince and company show up at a high school party of one of his fans. Perhaps “What About Bob” would have been a better contender but who can complain?

Speaking of “What About Bob,” Martin Landau (as producer Bob Ryan) is nominated for Guest Actor. He does have some stiff competition in Sir Ian McKellan from HBO's other nominated comedy series this year,
Extras who could easily take it. Also nominated are Stanley Tucci (
Monk), Beau Bridges (
My Name Is Earl), and Giovanni Ribisi (
My Name Is Earl). This seems like a category that Landau can take, though. Is that something you might be interested in?
Perhaps most exciting was the return of
Jeremy Piven (agent Ari Gold), nominated for Supporting Actor as well as first-time nominee
Kevin Dillon, Vincent Chase's brother, Johnny Drama.
Neil Patrick Harris (
How I Met Your Mother),
Rainn Wilson (
The Office), and
Jon Cryer (
Two And A Half Men) also were nominated. Look for Rainn Wilson to put up a good fight but it looks like Ari or Drama might just walk away with Emmy gold.
The show was also nominated for Casting and Sound Mixing. Vince and the boys take over the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. when the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards air Sunday, September 16 on FOX.
