Following the reality series My Super Sweet Sixteen comes an MTV series called Engaged and Underage, which focuses on couples who are young and in love as they take a plunge and embark on a journey leading to their wedding.  As weeks lead up to the big day, a mix of comedy, drama, stress and tension surrounds the engaged couples until they finally say “I Do.”

Young couples between the ages of 18 and 21 are the main focus of Engaged and Underage. The half-hour documentary series chronicles their lives as they plan their nuptials, focusing on the final few weeks before the big event.  As young couples taking their first step towards adulthood, they start to gain control, freedom, and define themselves as people outside the confines of their parents and outside the comfort of their homes.

However, things don’t always turn out the way they planned.  As friends and families protest, naturally get involved and voice out their opinions, complications arise that usually lead to disputes and drama.  On the other hand, the show also taps into some humour with the build-up of relationship tension throughout the series.

Tapping issues of misguided lust, ultra-Christian virgins, pregnancy discovery, racial and religious issues, and honeymoon dilemmas, the show brings light on how marriage can be a stressful life changing event, most especially when the bride and groom to be are barely out of high school.

Engaged and Underage airs every Monday at 9:30pm ET/PT on MTV.

The show is produced by Amy Bailey, Dave Sirulnick, Lauren Eskelin and Stuart Cohn.
