If you turn on your television and see Eli Stone, don't jump for joy just yet. Yes, the ABC legal dramedy will make its return tonight after nearly six months of absence, but only to air the last four episodes en route to its second and final season, set to conclude on July 11.
On "Sonoma" a news anchor from one of the biggest media corporation loses his job, resulting in Eli, Taylor, Matt, and Maggie to share an awkward car ride to Sonoma to question a witness.
Here's how it happened. Taylor and Matt plan a getaway before the baby arrives, but their plans don't go as, well, planned, thanks to their latest case where they'll face off against each other. As a result, they trick Eli and Maggie into joining them on the road trip. As soon as they get there, it's a race to retain a witness being jailed in a county jail. The four lawyers must then join forces to free her from fail. Little do they know that the judge, who comes from Matt's past, will deliver a vengeful blow. Eli and Maggie also encounter a resurfacing of old feelings because of working together. Finally, Eli starts to feel the consequences of the Dark Truth treatment, as he is now plagued with not just one but two brain aneurysms.
Eli Stone was canceled November of last year, alongside other ABC shows Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money, to the understandable furor of fans. "Sonoma" is the first of the final four episodes.
When we left off last December, Eli found out more about Nate and Beth's engagement being called off (Eli and Nathan were in a huge fight over Beth as a result), with Nathan accusing Eli of being "worse than dad." Keith and Eli, meanwhile, helped a minister with a lawsuit, and Taylor and Matt out about their baby's death. Oh, and Eli was having a nosebleed before it wrapped up.
Eli Stone averaged 7.68 million viewers per episode last season, slightly dropping to 6.43 mil on the second so far.
Its return, of course, marks the swan song for the three shows until they wrap up their respective storylines, finished or unfinished.
