Tonight marks the return of
Eli Stone, ABC's legal dramedy that stars
Jonny Lee Miller as an attorney who is discovered to have a brain aneurysm that causes hallucinations or, as Dr. Chen suggests, divinely inspired visions of the future. The second season opener was written by Marc Guggenheim, whose credits include
Brothers & Sisters, CSI: Miami and
Law and Order, and Andrew Kreisberg, whose credits include
Boston Legal and
Hope & Faith.
But before we find out about what's in store for tonight's episode, let's revisit last season's finale. When we last saw
Eli Stone, Eli took a case involving a cancer-stricken man, who wanted to die with dignity, which was intertwined with the aftermath of Eli's surgery to remove his brain aneurysm. In the process of Eli's operation, he had a face-to-face meeting with God, who came in the form of George Michael.
Following his life-threatening operation to have his pesky aneurysm removed, Eli has been free of visions for six months. However, that doesn't mean that show's theatrical exploration has ended for good.
In tonight's episode called “The Path,” Eli's brother, Nate, is shockingly the one who has visions. When a crane crashes into a building trapping Jordan inside, Nate has a vision of exactly where Jordan is, and a brain aneurysm to go with it. Naturally, this leaves Nate and Eli flabbergasted.
At the same time, Eli tries to persuade Taylor that the search and rescue team are looking for her father in the wrong place but she refuses to believe him. This eventually leads to a legal showdown between the two former lovers.
Eli Stone stars Jonny Lee Miller as Eli Stone,
James Saito as Dr. Chen,
Julie Gonzalo as Maggie Dekker,
Loretta Devine as Patti,
Matt Letscher as Nathan Stone,
Natasha Henstridge as Taylor Wethersby,
Sam Jaeger as Matt Dowd, and
Victor Garber as Jordan Wethersby.
Joining the cast in tonight's episode is none other than Sigourney Weaver. The Oscar winner, who is best known for her roles as Lt. Ellen Ripley in the
Alien film series, will guest star as a therapist who treats Eli.
