Eli Stone, which is scheduled to begin on ABC come January 31, offers an interesting premise that promises to make for riveting viewing. It also doesn't hurt that its debut comes right after the season premiere of
Lost, which should make for a rather formidable lead-in.
Eli Stone stars British import,
Jonny Lee Miller, in the title role, as a somewhat unscrupulous lawyer who has built a profitable practice representing high profile and wealthy companies. His life takes an intriguing turn when he begins experiencing hallucinations, which force him to re-think his life.
Eli Stone is the brainchild of hotshot young producer, Greg Berlanti, also responsible for two other fairly new and promising programs,
Brothers & Sisters and
Dirty Sexy Money.
When
Eli Stone kicks off at the end of the month, its debut installment will feature the music of former Tonic frontman, Emerson Hart. Hart, who, aside from doing vocals, also wrote material for Tonic, has released his debut album as a solo artist,
Cigarettes and Gasoline.
Eli Stone's first ever episode will include the track “Flyin” from that album.
Since going at it alone, Hart's tunes have made their way to several television shows. Last year,
One Tree Hill featured “Friend To A Stranger” while
Cane made use of “When She Loves You.” Hart also penned “Generations,” the award-winning theme song from
American Dreams.
Music actually figures into the main premise of
Eli Stone, as Eli constantly hears George Michael's “Faith” in his head. This is, in fact, the primary symptom of a brain aneurysm that Eli learns he's suffering from. Whether his prophetic visions and hallucinations are also the result of his condition is one of the upcoming show's mysteries. Whatever the reason, regular doses of deceased family members and the former lead singer of WHAM are enough to lead Eli to a change in attitude and lifestyle.
