Before moving on to star in her own series, tween star
Miranda Cosgrove received some brotherly advice from her former
Drake & Josh co-stars,
Drake Bell and
Josh Peck.
"I think it helped to watch Drake and Josh do it first so I knew exactly what was coming," Cosgrove, known to many as Drake's little sister, Megan Parker, on
Drake & Josh, told the
New York Post. "Drake & Josh told me just to be myself and have a good time.
Cosgrove, who also appeared opposite Jack Black on the comedy,
School of Rock, is now well on her way to becoming the next tween sensation, having landed the lead role in the new Nickelodeon series,
iCarly. The show is written and produced by Dan Schneider, the same man behind
Drake & Josh and
Zoey 101.
On
iCarly, Miranda Cosgrove plays Carly Shay, who, along with best pal Sam (Jennette McCurdy), hosts a weekly webcast with the help of Freddie (Nathan Kress), a technology-savvy kid from across the hall, and Spencer (Jerry Trainor), Carly's older brother. The show premiered on September 8, drawing in massive numbers among young viewers, Nickelodeon's target demographic.
It is also the first program to integrate videos submitted by viewers into its storyline.
"Kids can upload their videos onto icarly.com and it adds a bit of reality to the show because we're characters on the Web - so the little kids will probably think we really are Carly and Sam," Miranda Cosgrove said. "I just went to a theme park in L.A. and the kids there were asking me how they could send their videos in and stuff. It's cool that kids are already getting into it."
The 14-year-old actress also told the
New York Post that being on
iCarly has allowed her to do more as an actress.
"The cool part is I've gotten to do stunts and things. I didn't get to do as many crazy things on
Drake & Josh,” she said.
