This coming fall, Drake Bell, one of the stars on the television series Drake & Josh, will be featured in Mattel's “I Can Play Guitar” commercial to help kids make their rock star fantasies come true.  While today's technology has sprouted various video games and play guitars for a hint of “real” guitar play, Mattel's version features a unique plug and play learning system intended to inspire even the youngest fans.

In an effort to make playing the guitar easy and fun as playing video games, Mattel has packaged its plug and play learning system in the form of a real electric guitar.  Although it looks like the real thing, it includes color-coded finger position buttons on the frets and abbreviated strings, perfect for small hands.  This will allow users to just simply follow along with the fun games and visuals on their television screen by matching color-coded images on the screen to the buttons of the guitar.

"I love music and I'm obsessed with music and the fact that I can create something of my own or express my feelings through my music," the Drake & Bell actor said.  "This new I Can Play Guitar actually teaches kids how to play - it works just like a real guitar - it's crazy man."

In the commercial, Bell busts in on a group of struggling young musicians hanging out in their garage and plays to kids' fantasies as he rocks out with Mattel's new merchandise.

The ad isn't the only thing keeping Bell preoccupied these days.  Aside from Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh, he is also currently on tour supporting his Universal Motown Records debut It's Only Time.

"Working with Drake is a natural fit and adds great excitement to our message.  He knows what it takes to turn dreams into reality and his passion for guitar is truly infectious," Mattel's general manager David Allmark said.
