Miranda Cosgrove, cast member on
Drake & Josh who now leads her own series
iCarly, reveals that she has a lot in common with her character Carly Shay. Just like her teenage character, the 14-year-old actress loves to hang out with friends and family.
"But [Carly] always knows what to do when a situation goes wrong - and I'm not like that at all," Cosgrove told the
Daily News. "I'm sort of tech-savvy - I IM [instant message] my friends all the time and I'm always online - but she seems like she's more into Web sites."
On
iCarly, Cosgrove stumbles into Internet stardom thanks to an online video which was uploaded in an effort to create a good role model for teens. She stars alongside Jennette McCurdy (Sam Puckett), Nathan Kress (Freddie Benson), and Jerry Trainor (Spencer Shay).
Cosgrove, who is also known as Megan Parker on
Drake & Josh, says that part of why she enjoys working on her new show is because it also airs on Nickelodeon.
"I always know the scripts are going to be kid-friendly. Plus, all my friends watch Nickelodeon, so it's cool," she said.
Although she has studied with a tutor since the sixth grade, Cosgrove says she doesn't feel like she's missing out on the type of school experience Carly has on the show.
"All my friends are in high school, so they're keeping me close," she said. "I don't miss out on anything. There are definitely cute guys on the show, and Jennette and I, we're always talking about it and whispering like high school."
When asked if the onscreen infatuation goes beyond the camera, she said, “Yes! People were asking us about that. Nathan has a crush on me on the show, but in real life we're like best friends."
