Doctor Who made some news during its Thursday panel at Comic-Con 2015. The season 9 premiere date has been announced, and an official trailer has been released.

First up, the premiere date: season 9 will begin airing on Saturday, September 19 on BBC America.

In the new season, the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, along with Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) will travel through time and visit deadly alien planets, underwater bases, Vikings villages, a global Zygon uprising and hidden alien dens. Along the way, they'll come across new and old monsters, Missy (Michelle Gomez), a city of Daleks, deadly mercenaries, ghosts and much more.

Peter Capaldi said, "Soaring through all of time and space, series 9 sees the Doctor throw himself into life with a new hunger for adventure. The Cosmos is there for the taking, thrilling, epic and enticing, and his to play in. But he's almost reckless in his abandon. It's almost like he's running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down." Quite the tease there.

We have a premiere date, but what about some footage of the new season? You're in luck because an official trailer has been released. It's a minute and a half long and packed with tons of action. Take a look at it below:

You might have noticed a familiar face at the end of the trailer. Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams will be guest starring in season 9. Other guest stars include Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.
