BBC Dismisses Doctor Who "Ending Rumors"
Monday, June 04, 2007

doctor whoLast week, The Sun and several media sources have reported that the long-running British science fiction television series, Doctor Who, is about to culminate after the fourth season finishes next year. It has been reported that the show’s executive producer Russell T. Davies, who is exhausted from the 16-hour production days, plans to pursue other projects, deciding to put an end to award-winning show while it’s still on top of the ratings. In addition, it has been said that many senior staff members working on the series have been contemplating on handing in their resignations.

However, these are all just rumors. According to BBC, the network’s executives have a long-term commitment to the science fiction drama. And even if Davies decides to leave the show, Doctor Who will still continue without him.

But Davies’ departure from Doctor Who is not likely to happen, at least not any time soon. "We are a long way away from even thinking about series five when the current series hasn't ended and we have yet to start filming series four. But the BBC has a long-term commitment to Doctor Who," the program's creators have said in a statement.

Broadcast on BBC, Doctor Who is a show that follows the adventures of a mysterious time traveler known as “the doctor” as he explores time and space in his time machine/spacecraft called TARDIS, along with his companions as they solve problems and attempt to correct mistakes along the way. Since its premiere in 1963, the show has featured various actors to take the place of the doctor and his companions. At present, David Tennant, a Scottish actor known for playing Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, portrays the doctor.
