The second season of Torchwood will contain a total of 13 episodes, all written by Chris Chibnall, Catherine Tregenna, Helen Raynor, James Moran, Joseph Lidster, Peter J Hammond, JC Wilsher and Matt Jones.

"Filming is well underway in Cardiff, and we're aiming to make the show bigger and bolder than ever, as we move to our new home on BBC Two,” creator Russell T. Davies said.  “It's too early to start giving things away, but we've got some amazing guest stars, fearsome new aliens, and compelling new storylines that will push the Torchwood team further than ever before."

Among those guest stars are James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Alan Dale (Neighbours, The O.C., Ugly Betty), and Freema Agyeman, who plays companion Martha Jones on Doctor Who.

All three are scheduled to appear in the second season in different points in time.

"I am a huge fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood so it was me who knocked on their door,” Marsters, who will appear in the first episode, said.  "I am really excited about the character I am playing.  I can't say too much about him, except he is naughty and a bit of a psychopath."

Dale, who will be seen at the latter part of the second season, said that he is happy to be back in England and “thrilled to be working on Torchwood,” as he is “a huge fan of British television drama.”

Agyeman’s cross-over will happen sometime in the middle of season.

"I'm really looking forward to working with the Torchwood team and can't wait to start filming,” she said.  “It's a huge new challenge and a wonderful opportunity to develop and expand the character of Martha Jones."
