Previously on Dirty Sexy Money: Nick became aware of the affair between Simon and Karen. Brian was in the middle of a profound life crisis. Jeremy continued to try and woo Sofia. Carmelita informed Patrick that she believed she was being watched by someone.
Dirty Sexy Money, despite a litany of behind-the-scenes issues, was one of the more highly-regarded new series of the 2007-2008 season. Due to the writers' strike,
Dirty Sexy Money only aired ten episodes in its freshman season. There are currently three unaired episodes floating around at ABC, which will be worked in to the second season, set to premiere in October.
Samaire Armstrong, who plays Juliet Darling, a Paris Hilton cypher, will be slowly phased out of the show in the second season. The company line on this is that it's purely for creative purposes, but Armstrong had some off-the-set issues during season one, including a stint in rehab. She'll be missed; Juliet was one of my favorite characters. They easily could have made Juliet a vapid, superficial tart. But, they gave her unexpected depth which made the viewer think twice about how we think about the obscenely rich starlets that pop up in gossip magazines and in cable reality shows.
Peter Krause leads an incredible cast, and has no problem shouldering the weight as
Dirty Sexy Money's entry point for the audience. Donald Sutherland gives a sobering performance as the Darling patriarch, in a role that I can't imagine any other actor portraying at this point.
Dirty Sexy Money has a chance to be a long-running and popular drama. Audiences can expect some major changes in season 2, but I hope they don't mess too much with a serviceable formula. I didn't expect to enjoy
Dirty Sexy Money nearly as much as I did in season one.
