FX has announced a premiere date for the second season of
Dirt, although the show's sophomore run will be shorter than usual, as they were only able to complete only seven of the 13 episodes due to the writers' strike.
March 2 is the date
Dirt fans should mark in their calendars. The show's second season kicks off from that night's 10pm timeslot, and will pick up from where the previous year ended. Last time viewers saw tabloid editor Lucy Spiller (
Courteney Cox), she was lying unconscious and bloodied after being attacked by fallen actress Julia Mallory (
Laura Allen), who blames Lucy for destroying her career with scathing articles on
Dirt Now. The assault also has a dire effect on schizophrenic photographer and Lucy's loyal employee Don Konkey (
Ian Hart), while reporter Willow (
Alexandra Breckenridge) continues her rise at the magazine.
Josh Stewart, who portrays actor Holt McLaren on
Dirt, will also be back in the second season. His character will continue riding a career high, thanks mostly to Lucy's help.
Basketball-player-turned-actor
Rick Fox and Once and Again star
Jeffrey Nordling are also expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming season.
FX's
Dirt, which is co-produced by Cox and husband David Arquette's Coquette Productions, first hit the airwaves January 2, 2007. The first season was made up of 13 episodes, with the finale airing late March. The show earned an average of 5.2 total million viewers each week over multiple airings last season. Just over 70 percent of those viewers were within the network's target audience of adults 18-49.
With seven episodes in the bag, FX has enough to make
Dirt's run last through April. The network also has a half-season of
The Riches at hand, as well as full seasons of
Morgan Spurlock's reality series
30 Days and the final season of the
Michael Chiklis-led drama
The Shield. No premiere dates, however, have been announced for the latter two shows.
