Marc Ecko Developing 'Dexter' Video Game
Sunday, March 09, 2008

Michael C. Hall as DexterFans of Showtime's serial-killer drama Dexter will be excited to know that the series is currently being developed into a video game.  According to industry reports, the premium cable network has signed a production deal with the gaming division of Marc Ecko hip-hop fashion house.  The deal calls for the creation of a game that will be available for several platforms, including the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.

"Dexter is the extremely rare TV show with enough layers of action and tension to translate perfectly into a compelling video game," Marc Fernandez, vice president of Marc Ecko Enterprises, said.

Although Marc Ecko Entertainment is in talks with numerous developers about the game, the company stressed that it will be working closely with Showtime to make sure that the product will be faithful to the series, which stars Six Feet Under alum Michael C. Hall as a Miami P.D. blood spatter analyst who kills criminals who have slipped through the cracks of the justice system.  Since its 2006 premiere, the show has gained a large fan base, many of whom are avid gamers as well.  The third season of Dexter is expected to air sometime in the fall, but fans can catch reruns of it on Showtime's sister network, CBS.

Dexter's run on CBS, a broadcast network, has been met with some protests, particularly the Parents Television Council (PTC).  The watchdog group has criticized the network for showing the gritty and often gory drama, saying that children are part of the audience that tunes in for the Sunday 10pm telecasts of the show.  PTC went on to say that the network has no regard for children.

"It is apparent CBS cares nothing for the children it's influencing," PTC president Tim Winter said in a statement.  "CBS' claims that it is only targeting adults with Dexter are utterly false."

It is important to note, however, that while the number of children age 2 to 11 in Dexter's audience is growing, the number is the lowest recorded by Nielsen for any network program in the same timeslot.
