Julie Benz' character Rita may have died one of the most gruesome deaths in recent television memory, but count on a
Dexter character to jump out of a rut and into something possibly even more gruesome - Wisteria Lane. Do I hear yikes?
Benz, 37, who abruptly departed the Showtime series on its fourth season closer, was cast in a recurring role on
Desperate Housewives. She'll play Debbie, a stripper with a heart of gold and a Masters degree in education, whom Susan (Teri Hatcher) offers a chance to transition into a more legitimate and maybe less sparsely dressed career. Deb, of course, jumps at the opportunity.
Don't forget to catch:
BuddyTV's Best of 2009The
Dexter actress is set to appear on at least three
Desperate Housewives episodes, scheduled to kick off in February. This is around the same time when Tom's (Doug Savant)
psychotherapist gets in the scene, too, to be played by Jane Leeves, best known for playing Daphne Moon on
Frasier.
On the
Dexter season 4 finale, she was found dead on the bathtub while baby Harrison sat on the tile in a puddle of blood. Trinity's handiwork? You bet.
Benz is, of course, also quite well known for her role of Darla on
Angel and
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She starred opposite Sylvester Stallone on the fourth
Rambo movie in 2008.
Dexter's fifth installment will return on September 26, while
Desperate Housewives second half kicked off last night.
