Entertainment Weekly let it slip that Drea de Matteo's secretive bat-wielding, although eco-friendly, matriarch Angie Bolen is set to make an "explosive" exit from Desperate Housewives in May. That's the same time when Torchwood's John Barrowman will arrive and make everything clear. Apparently, Barrowman will play Patrick Logan, the head of Angie's former eco-terrorist group, but we're already getting ahead of ourselves.

"All the mysterious parts of her past will be revealed," says Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. He also rebuffs rumors that de Matteo was fired because she didn't get along with the rest of the housewives, saying "We adore her. She is the sweetest gal in the world."

Sadly, the sweet girl impression is something that most Desperate Housewives fans don't share. Viewers of the show didn't exactly warm up to Angie Bolen's icy protective character - the neighbors certainly didn't. Not once did she get into scuffles with her suburban Wisteria Lane neighbors; sometimes for as trivial as segregating the trash to as intense as some crazy person trying to squish Danny under a car - that's you, Susan (Teri Hatcher).

To the character's defense, Cherry says the unlikable nature of Angie's is mostly due to the mystery that surrounds her family, that she is really meant to be secretive and guarded.

There are moments, though, when we find Angie's character actually enjoyable, such as her stint working for Bree (Marcia Cross), when her outspoken and candid nature is put side by side and emphasized vis-à-vis Bree's overly tactful and at times hypocritical mien. And that she got so worked up about a neighbor who refused to segregate trash? That was hilarious and refereshing, plus the ensuing revelation that she was part of an eco-terrorist group, of which Barrowman's Patrick was/is head.

But her best scene yet remains to be charging toward Susan with a baseball bat. A lot of Desperate Housewives fans would like to do that themselves, actually, since Susan's been kind of a drag this season.
