Desperate Housewives: Will Edie Return to Wisteria Lane?
Thursday, May 15, 2008

desperate housewivesAt the end of Sunday's episode of Desperate Housewives, Edie packed up and left Wisteria Lane, which surprised many viewers.  Well, sort of.  For some time now, rumors have swirled that Nicollette Sheridan, who plays the sexy realtor, will be leaving ABC's award-winning dramedy.  Though both the network and Sheridan's publicist, Nicole Perna, have been tightlipped in response to inquiries about the actress' imminent departure, show creator Marc Cherry already hinted that Sheridan's character will be crossing a huge moral boundary that she's never crossed before on the show.

Edie bolted on Sunday's episode when Susan, Lynette (Felicity Huffman), Bree and Gabrielle faced her down after she had pulled one too many schemes against them.

"We're done," Susan (Teri Hatcher) told her.  "From now on, you are invisible."

"And we're gonna make sure every woman in a 5-mile radius knows the kind of c--- you pull," said Gabrielle (Eva Longoria).

Edie tried to apologize but to no avail.

"Did you hear something?" Bree (Marcia Cross) said as the women strode away.  "Neither did I."

After Sunday's installment, Cherry was more forthcoming as he told The Associated Press that Edie is gone.  On the other hand, “She won't be back for a few years."

Could this have anything to do with the recent rumor about Desperate Housewives' possible time leap that could perhaps bring back Edie to the show?  Cherry refused to address the issue, although he does encourage fans to stay tuned to the two-hour season finale this Sunday.

"We'll have to wait until next season and see," Cherry added.

But even though Edie is gone for now, Cherry said that Sheridan could return before the show ends in 2011.

“We do three more seasons and then it's done,” Cherry said.  “I will tear down all the sets personally.  I want to be sure that when we leave the air, people still care.”
