Actor
James Denton has always been vocal about his love for baseball, even buying his own team, the Fullerton Flyers, back in March. However, the ballpark is not the only sports venue wherein Denton can be expected. At the end of this month, the
Desperate Housewives star is scheduled to appear at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana.
Last week, it was announced that Denton would be serving as the Grand Marshall for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. On July 29, the race will begin its 14th run, which will be the season’s first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event aired on ESPN.
James Denton, who plays plumber Mike Delfino on ABC’s hit series,
Desperate Housewives, is expected to participate in such pre-race activities as waving the ceremonial green flag that signals the start of the race.
"This is an incredible honor to be named the grand marshal for this year's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard," James Denton said. "I'm a huge sports fan, so to be able to wave the green flag at one of NASCAR's premier races is going to be an amazing experience."
Although the 44-year-old actor had a late start in the entertainment industry, he has done several worthy projects that have brought him fame. He has appeared in such films as
Primary Colors and
Face-Off, and recently completed work in two upcoming movies,
Tortured and
Custody. In television, he has guest-starred on several shows, but it is his work on
Desperate Housewives that has made him one of the most popular figures in the small screen.
Of Denton, Allstate chief marketing officer Joe Tripodi said, "As a well-known TV personality on a very popular show and an avid sports enthusiast, James is an ideal ambassador for this monumental race. We are proud to make him an integral part of the festivities.”
Tickets for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard can be purchased at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s official website or the Ticket Office, as well as by phone. Parking and camping permits can also be availed through the website, phone or the Ticket Office.
