It wasn't as good as the flashback-laden Eli episode of season 5, but the Fairview Strangler installment still managed to give us a few chills, especially when Eddie killed his own mother (and lied through his teeth); but really, how can you not cringe at that?
'Desperate Housewives' Finale: A Birth, A Death and 'Some Destruction'On tonight's episode of
Desperate Housewives, it was all about the almost-forgotten serial killer, relegated to the sidelines for the better part of the season because of Angie's (Drea de Matteo) ongoing story. We learned bits and pieces of his life, what elements birthed this monster, but the result was underwhelming, if not formulaic and just drab.
It was revealed the housewives had some sort of connection to the Fairview Stranger: even Mary Alice (Brenda Strong) was there, a witness when his dad left; Bree (Marcia Cross) gave her useless and ultimately disastrous advice about courting a girl; Susan (Teri Hatcher) tried to tell him he had talent; Lynette (Felicity Huffman) saw firsthand how Eddie's mom treated him ... and he helped Gaby (Eva Longoria-Parker) unpack.
We say the Fairview Strangler's story is formulaic because, really, what can be more generic and cliche as the combination of irresponsible father, alcoholic mother and unwanted child?
The one thing that we cared to find out were the motivation for the individual killings, something that the
Desperate Housewives episode didn't address in full. We know why he killed the hooker, but it didn't revisit the coffee shop girl earlier this season. What did you think of this episode?
