After the tornado of season 4 (and the fire at Rick's restaurant, and the hostage situation of season 2), the Desperate Housewives people will have to deal with another catastrophe this season as the cliffhanger for the first half of the season, Entertainment Weekly reports.

If you don't want anything spoiled on Desperate Housewives, the spoiler is after the jump.

A "neighborhood plane crash" is reportedly set to rock Wisteria Lane (after all, it's been more than five years since the twister so another catastrophe is totally statistically probable). And while it will "affect everyone's lives" according to Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, no Housewife is going to die, fortunately or otherwise.

"I'd love to kill somebody 'cause that's just what I do," Cherry said, laughing. "But the truth is, right now I don't have anyone major dying." The storyline is still on the planning stages so if you're pro-death in this instance, there's hope for that yet.

On the other hand, he didn't explicitly say that the plane crash will completely be casualty-free, so it's largely possible that a family member or someone not so major will be killed off. At the top of my head, obvious candidates include any member of the new family the Bolens or Lynette's (Felicity Huffman) unborn twins.
