Kyle MacLachlan as Dr. Orson Hodge
Dr. Orson Hodge is portrayed by Kyle Machlaclan on the series,
Desperate Housewives. Orson was raised in a religious household, but at the age of 16, learned about his father’s infidelity. Upon the exposure of his father’s affair, their whole church was utterly scandalized, which led Orson’s father to drown his miseries in alcohol. When he neglected to stay with his father upon his mother’s (Gloria Hodge) request, his father took his own life. Gloria ended up blaming Orson for his father’s suicide, and he himself developed psychological depression.
As an adult, Orson had gained considerable success as a dentist. However, not the same can be said about his relationships. He was once married to Alma, but their union wasn’t a happy one. Orson only felt compelled to marry Alma because she had gotten pregnant. When she lost the baby a month after they were wed, Orson expressed his desire to get a divorce. Gloria, driven by her faith, voted against Orson’s plan, and eventually, he ended up having an affair with Monique Polier. Their affair led Alma to leave Orson, but instead of taking her things, she stormed off empty-handed to make it seem like she just simply disappeared.
Meanwhile, Gloria, who also came to know about Orson’s affair with Monique, went to the woman’s house and killed her with a wrench. She justified her act by saying that she feared her son’s infidelity and immoral behavior would not secure him a position in Heaven. Before Orson could properly dispose of Monique’s body, plumber Mike Delfino, who had been working on Monique’s sink earlier, came by to pick up the supplies he left. Orson steered him away and subsequently placed the murder weapon in Mike’s possession.
He first met Bree Van De Kamp (who would eventually become his wife) while he was helping Susan Mayer pick up the pieces of her charred house, which had been burned down by Edie Britt. They saw each other for the second time when Orson was visiting Gloria in the mental institution where Bree had admitted herself. She made Orson promise that he would not tell Susan about her condition. Later, Orson was reacquainted with Mike at his dental office, but for fear of Mike connecting him to Monique’s murder, Orson ran the plumber over with his car. From there, Orson started dating Bree, and eventually, they were married. However, his past has continued to haunt him, with former friends and his mother leading the way.
