Josh Henderson as Austin McCann
Austin McCann is played by Josh Henderson on the television series,
Desperate Housewives. Before Austin ended up in Wisteria Lane, he was living with his mother and her new boyfriend. He often conflicted with her mother’s boyfriend and ultimately left his home after his mother chose her boyfriend over Austin. Initially, he was planning to head out to Mexico, but instead took a small detour and found himself trying to break into his aunt Edie Britt’s house. Edie caught him in the act, but instead of sending him on his way, decided to let Austin stay in her house.
As a resident of Wisteria Lane, Austin immediately felt an attraction towards Susan Mayer’s daughter, Julie. Julie also developed strong feelings for Austin, but they do not formalize their relationship until after they were among those held hostage by Carolyn Bigsby in the supermarket. Susan did not approve of Julie’s relationship with Austin, nor did Edie, who even warned Julie that Austin was bad news. Nevertheless, Julie kept seeing Austin, and after she talked to Andrew Van de Kamp, she decided to surrender her virginity to Austin. However, unbeknownst to Julie, Austin was also sleeping with her friend, Danielle Van de Kamp. Eventually, Austin tried to break up with Danielle, but she threatened him by saying that if he broke up with her, she would confess all their wrongdoings to Julie.
Stuck in a corner, Austin continued his infidelity, only to be found out anyway by Susan and Edie later on. Susan then told Julie about Austin and Danielle, and consequently, Julie and Austin’s relationship ended. Austin was hit hard by the break up, and was even caught smoking marijuana by Lynette Scavo, who had given him a job at her husband’s pizza restaurant. After some time, Austin found a way to fix his relationship with Julie, but felt compelled to leave Wisteria Lane when he learned about Danielle’s pregnancy.
