Brad Dourif was noted for playing Dr. Amos Cochran on HBO's
Deadwood. As the only doctor in the camp, his character was well respected and revered despite his apparent substance abuse problem. Throughout the show, he took his profession seriously, which included taking care of the whores at The Gem, and even maintained an interest in medical research, which put him more in sympathy with modern physicians than his contemporaries. Dourif lingered on the show from 2004 to 2006 and earned several award nominations for being an outstanding supporting cast member. This year, the 57-year-old actor will be marking his comeback with several drama films and a horror movie.
Showing today in theaters is the movie
Halloween, which is a remake of the 1987 horror film that starred Jamie Lee Curtis. The former
Deadwood actor plays the role of Sheriff Lee Brackett, joining Malcolm McDowell, Tyler Mane and Sheri Moon.
Also anticipated in the coming months are Dourif's two drama films,
Winston, which is current in post-production stages, and
Humboldt County, which he already completed shooting. In the latter, he acts opposite Fairuza Balk, Frances Conroy and Peter Bogdanovich in plot about a disillusioned medical student who discovers himself while stranded amongst a community of counterculture pot farmers.
In addition to
Deadwood, Brad Dourif was known for being part of the drama
Sinner, which featured Nick Chinlund, Michael E. Rodgers, and Georgina Cates in a story that tapped on topics such as the Catholic Church, priesthood, love and celibacy. He was also credited for his role in
The Wizard of Gore, a horror-mystery movie about a master illusionist, strange deaths and dismembered bodies.
