Jeffrey Jones was born on September 28, 1946 in Buffalo, New York. He attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and studied at Stratford Theatre in Ontario. Previously, he appeared in films like Easy Money, Remington Steel, Amadeus and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He also guest starred on television shows like The People Next Door, Amazing Stories, and Tales from the Crypt. Moreover, he became part of the television series Deadwood as A.W. Merrick.

A.W. Merrick is the owner of the Black Hills Pioneer, the local newspaper. He takes pride in his profession as a newspaper man, always aspiring to print the truth but must navigate around major players in town and being discreet about their plains.
