Daytime actress Alison Sweeney
has been playing Sami on Days of our Lives
for 15 years, but the 31-year-old star, who also happens to be the host of NBC's The Biggest Loser
, says she hasn't tired of her onscreen persona, and has no plans of leaving the show.
“I love Sami. I have spent 15 years here and never been bored. I am blessed to have such an exciting, crazy character who entertains me and drives me insane every single day,” Sweeney told Boston Now
. “When I [get] bored, or when I feel like I am just phoning it in, that's the day I'll look for something else, but it hasn't happened yet, and I can't ever imagine it happening.”
In the many years that Alison Sweeney has spent on Days of our Lives
, her character has been through tremendous trials, including developing bulimia for the sake of winning Austin's affections, getting raped by Alan and being sentenced to death for supposedly killing her husband Franco. Presently, Sami is stuck in a love triangle with Lucas (Bryan Dattilo
) and EJ (James Scott
Sweeney admits that she often finds herself “between a rock and a hard place” when it comes to portraying Sami.
“It's hard not to take ownership because it's my character - I've been doing it for more than 15 years now - but at the same time, they aren't my stories. It's not my story to tell and I feel obligated to do the best I can with the stories that I'm given,” she told Boston Now.
On the other hand, she also admitted that if she were in charge, she would not have written Sami's involvement with EJ the way it is playing out now on Days of our Lives
“As a woman, and a fan of Sami's, I think there got to be a lot of changes that would have to come in EJ's behavior, in who he is, before she could ever live with herself,” Alison Sweeney said. “I have a friend who dated this total, utter bastard for the longest time and everyone else could see it but her, but that's not Sami's situation. She did see it. She experienced it. She had to live with it. And now, all of a sudden...? And on top of that she has this wonderful love and romance with Lucas. It's a really delicate road.”
