Days of our Lives: May 29 Live Thoughts
Days of our Lives: May 29 Live Thoughts
Days of our Lives begins with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve (Stephen Nichols).  They are just coming home from the hospital.  They wanted to visit their new baby, but the nurses wouldn't let them see him, since he is still in critical condition.

At Chez Rouge, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) is showing off her new green restaurant.  Well, it's the same old Chez Rouge, but she has put in solar panels and such.  Maggie has organized a dinner in honor of Nick receiving his grant, and has invited Bo (Peter Reckell), Hope (Kristian Alfonso), Lexie (Renee Jones) and Daniel.  Chelsea (Rachel Melvin) shows up as well.  Across the room, Nicole and EJ (James Scott) are having drinks.  Nicole confesses to EJ that she didn't want to see Philip and Chloe together.  EJ advises her on how she can worm her way into Philip's cold heart.

Everyone at Chez Rouge toasts to Nick, but things are awkward when Nick notices Chelsea talking to Daniel.  Hope notices Chelsea's strange behavior.  Chelsea congratulations Nick, who is frosty-cool towards her.  Stephanie (Shelley Hennig) arrives as well, but she doesn't know where Max is.  Nick makes a comment about how Max should be there since he had a lot to do with getting Nick's grant.

Lexie lets slip to Hope that she and Abe aren't communicating.  Lexie tells her that she thinks her marriage might be in trouble.  She goes into the nitty-gritty of all their problems, even though Abe obviously doesn't like her telling other people about their problems.

Bo notices that Nick is out of sorts over Chelsea and gives him a "buck up" speech.

Daniel meets some colleagues from the hospital for a guys' night out.  They make lewd comments about Chelsea from across the room.  One of them decides to try to go hit on Chelsea, making Daniel extremely uncomfortable.  The dude makes the world's worst pickup line: "You don't know me, but you should."  Chelsea shoots him down, and points out that her police detective daddy is here with her.

The new head of the Salem University physics department, Dean Robbins, arrives to present Nick with his grant check.  He makes a speech and gives Nick a check.  A little later on, Nick says that he had help with some of his calculations and, as such, shouldn't be entitled to the funding.  Um, do these writers not know how research works?  Of course, he wouldn't have done it all on his own!  That's why people have grad students and research assistants!  The dean doesn't pay any heed and commends Nick for delegating his work.

EJ tells Nicole about his hopes and dreams of living happily-ish ever after with Sami.  EJ tells her about how Lucas walked in on them in bed.  EJ now must resort to plan B, which involves giving Sami whatever she wants, namely, an annulment.  This doesn't mean he's giving up, though.  His plan is to make it look like he's the perfect father, the perfect gentleman and the best friend Sami ever had.  He will prove that he is the better choice, and Sami will leave Lucas and come back to him.  EJ and Nicole get completely hammered.  Nicole offers her thoughts on how to make Sami jealous: have Sami walk in on the two of them in bed together.  They canoodle and near-kiss, but EJ can't quite make himself kiss her.  He doesn't want to call it a night just yet, though.

Max (Darin Brooks) finally shows up to the celebration, but he leaves right away.  Nick isn't too happy to see him either.  Daniel gets a call on his cell phone and has to leave right away.

At home, Steve tries to distract Kayla, but all she can think about is baby Joey.  He leaves the room for a second, and she takes the opportunity to rush out the door.  Steve manages to catch up to her before she leaves for the hospital.  Steve leaves the room again and comes back with a cradle in a box, for Joe's nursery.  Kayla is touched by Steve's thoughtfulness.  They set about putting together the cradle.  Unfortunately, all the instructions are written in Swedish.  Ah, Days of our Lives' brand of comic relief is somethin' else, isn't it?  Steve manages to get a little swing made.  There's more work to be done, though, and they engage in pointless banter about he should have paid someone to put the swing together.  Steve tests it out with a teddy bear, and the whole thing falls apart.  Har har.  Eventually, though, Steve fixes it.  He brings out another surprise for her: a stuffed giraffe and a baby monitor with a webcam.  Kayla loves it, but then gets sad again at the thought that her baby is still in the hospital.

Next on Days of our Lives:  Ava wants to be Marlena's new patient, John demands that Abe catch the real bad guy, Stephanie wants to know why Max ran out of Chez Rouge the way he did.
