Days of our Lives
begins in the hospital with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans
), immediately after giving birth to her son. Lexie (Renee Jones
) tells her that the baby boy has been rushed to the NICU, and neither Kayla or Steve (Stephen Nichols
) is allowed to see him. Out in the waiting room, Stephanie (Shelley Hennig
) wonders if Daniel would be able to help out with the baby since he did such a good job with Chelsea and Bo. Except that treating a baby would be a completely different field of medicine, one that he is not specialized in, but whatever. TV medicine, especially Days of our Lives
medicine, is not real.
At home, EJ (James Scott
) and Sami (Alison Sweeney
) get ready for bed. They don't say a word, but there is a lot of longing and pining and sighing going on.
Mickey Horton pays a visit to Lucas (Bryan Dattilo
) at Statesville penitentiary. He asks him if he's ready to come home.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
Lucas is incredulous that he might be allowed to go home. Mickey explains that it is not a release. If the state approves his petition, they would put him under house arrest and he'd have to wear an ankle monitor. The thing is, Lucas doesn't really seem thrilled at the prospect of going home. Maggie comes by with treats for Lucas and messages of love from the rest of the family. Lucas asks if Sami sends her love too. Lucas says that he denied Sami's request to visit him because he doesn't want her to see him in prison. Maggie calls him a damn fool. Mickey is called out to talk to the warden and comes back with the good news that he is going home!
Meanwhile, EJ tries to talk to Sami, who is still acting a little recalcitrant. She doesn't want to rehash everything, but EJ thinks that she's avoiding talking about it because she realizes that she wants him. She explains that he is reminding her of the time she drugged Austin and forced herself onto him. She remembers feeling so justified and so sure that after they made love, Austin would realize that she is the one he wants to be with. Austin eventually forgave Sami, so she realizes that it is time to forgive EJ for raping her. She wants to cut a deal with him - they won't talk about that night again and move on with their lives. The conversation takes a turn to Nicole, as it has been prone to doing lately. EJ insists that he just has a professional relationship with her. EJ asks Sami straight-up whether their kiss meant anything to her, or if she was just playing him. She finally admits that she kissed him the first time to get back at Nicole but ended up enjoying herself. Then she kissed him the second time because she wanted to find out if the first time was just a fluke. EJ offers his services for a third kiss and Sami thoughtfully obliges. They both look like they are enjoying themselves immensely. They finally give into their carnal desires and fall onto the bed. (Just in time for Lucas' arrival home, I might add!)
Daniel is in the locker room at the Salem University Hospital with another random doctor. Daniel is trying to explain why he isn't quite gone or why he hasn't accepted Lexie's offer for a full-time position. Daniel says that he has some unfinished business in Salem (read: Chelsea).
Max (Darin Brooks
) tries to provide support to Stephanie, who continues to cry and fret over her baby brother. Chelsea (Rachel Melvin
) goes to notify the family of the baby's condition. Dr. Ellman examines Kayla to make sure that she is doing fine, and Steve goes outside and gives Stephanie a hug. After examining her, Dr. Ellman tells Steve to focus on Kayla to speed her recovery and let the staff focus on the baby. Stephanie and Steve go in to visit Kayla, leaving Max alone in the waiting room. Nick (Blake Berris
) finds him there and demands to know what the hell he did with his papers. Nick says he received his grant, but he's not sure that it was his work that got submitted. Max is way defensive. Nick says that he saw the papers that were submitted and they didn't look familiar. Max goes home and brings back the original papers. Nick apologize half-heartedly, but promises that he'll look over the papers and if he finds out that Max is playing him, it won't be pretty. Wait, is this whole storyline setting up the fact that Max is some kind of super-genius who is smarter than Nick?
Stephanie and Steve try to distract Kayla from worrying by thinking of baby names for the little guy. Stephanie has a fun way to decide. They come up with silly names like Cosmo Johnson and SpongeBob Johnson, but Kayla doesn't laugh. She's got full-on postpartum weeping. Lexie comes by to give an update. The baby is still not breathing on his own.
Chelsea lurks around the hospital, wandering into the locker room. Daniel walks out of the shower in only a towel, making Chelsea blush. She asks him to help with Kayla Johnson's baby. She also wants to talk to him about something else. She asks if he has come to his senses yet, but he says that they are not meant to be. They argue and argue and argue. Chelsea is a spitfire and tells him to get over himself, dude. Fed up, she tries to leave, but he grabs her by the hand and pulls her in for another big kiss.
Next on Days of our Lives
: Lucas can't wait to see Sami, Sami is otherwise occupied with EJ, Daniel may have another girl on the side.
