While the rest of the world celebrates love with flowers and Hallmark cards, Days of our Lives
is all about impending doom today. And not just the planes dropping out of the air kind of impending doom. Lexie Carver (Renee Jones) asks Abe (James Reynolds
) to find out what John's plane's flight plan was because one of the Bradys has a terminal illness.
Meanwhile, up in the air, John (Drake Hogestyn
) has helpfully done some arithmetic and figures that they have two hours in the air, but only an hour and a half of oxygen left, so they are going to need the oxygen masks. All the passengers yell at him to think of a solution, and I really don't think yelling is the way to go. Unhappily, not all of the oxygen masks seem to be working. Say it with me, now....Ruh-roh!
Stephanie (Shelley Hennig
) and Chelsea (Rachel Melvin
) pay a visit to Lexie and Abe to find out when their parents are supposed to arrive. Abe calls to find out what time the plane departed, and everything seems to be just fine. Lexie can't keep her worried expression off her face, though, and the girls notice. The girls are about to leave, but Abe gets a call from air traffic control. He finds out that the plane hasn't been in radio contact for a while now.
Steve (Stephen Nichols
) shares his oxygen mask with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans
), and Bo (Peter Reckell
) gets up to look for portable oxygen tanks, but he collapses when he tries to get up. They all decide to share the oxygen masks until they find away to fix the plane. John clearly doesn't remember kindergarten, however, because he refuses to share his mask. Marlena (Deidre Hall
) and Bo agree that John doesn't need to share because he is the only who knows how to fly a plane and needs to remain alert. Steve offers to help since he used to be good a hotwiring cars. Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) is freaking out, while Belle (Martha Madison
) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer
) watch over Claire who is fast asleep. Anyone else worried that Claire might never wake up? Kayla confides in Marlena that she's pregnant. Marlena tells her to keep her mask on because she can't risk depriving the fetus of oxygen. Sadly, Patch is up in the cockpit without a mask and passes out.
Grandpa Shawn (Frank Parker
) keeps refusing to accept the mask that Bo and Hope (Kristian Alfonso
) offer him. He launches into a long speech about how he has to make his peace with God. He finally accepts the mask and breathes, and now it's Bo's turn to play the martyr. He finally tells Hope that he has cancer and is dying. Philip (Jay Kenneth Johnson
) and Shawn want to go up to the cockpit to help out, but their womenfolk need them by their side. John returns to the cockpit and finds Steve passed out. In an unexpected gesture of generosity, he puts his own mask to help him breathe. He spends a lot of time soliloquizing instead of, you know, doing something productive. But he eventually performs CPR and finally succeeds in reviving him.
Suddenly, there's a big crash and the plane shakes, knocking everyone around. Belle tells Shawn-Douglas that she has never loved anyone the way she loves him. Shawn and Hope find Bo passed out on the floor and drag him back to his seat. This time, Grandpa is adamant that he won't take up anymore oxygen.
