Scotty McCreery breaks records! The season 10 winner's first album,
Clear As Day,
debuts at the top spot on the Billboard 200, making him the youngest male artist to have their debut release kick off at the top of the chart. The 18-year-old is also the first country act to debut at number one on the chart with his first studio album.
A more interesting fact: Scotty's album sold more copies in its debut week than the previous two Idol winners combined, according to Billboard. His album sold 197,000 copies, against the 80,000 copies of Kris Allen's debut, and the 39,000 copies of Lee DeWyze's debut. Scotty's also the first Idol winner whose studio debut hit number one, after Ruben Studdard back in 2003.
So maybe you guys were really on to something when this year's all-country finale happened. Now, my question: will
Lauren Alaina's debut album, Wildflower -- which just hit stores this week -- get similar figures? We'll see next week.
Elsewhere on the Idol-sphere...
David Cook does Nine Inch Nails! The season 7 winner's currently on a co-headlining tour with Gavin DeGraw, and he's been playing with all these covers during his stops. (Billy Joel, anyone?) In his most recent stop, he did "The Hand That Feeds".
James Durbin mini-update, anyone? Back to season 10, and to James Durbin, who's busy at work on his November album Memories of a Beautiful Disaster. Closing today's roundup, here's his video update, with Motley Crue's Mick Mars:
