It seems that one of the casting rumors is true.
Steve-O, the daredevil performer who gained fame for his stint on
Jackass and
Wildboyz, will be joining the eighth season of
Dancing with the Stars, according to
OK! Magazine. Following his stint in a California mental institution, where he stayed for four months for drug abuse last year, he will be returning to our small screens when the show kicks off on March 9.
Steve-O has reportedly "verbally agreed" to compete on D
ancing with the Stars' eighth season last December. But as expected, ABC has refused to either confirm or deny his participation. Since then, the 34-year-old stunt-lover has been included in the controversial list of names that would possibly hit the dance floor, joining Kevin Federline, Dina Lohan, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Sherri Shepherd, Lawrence Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Jewel and Denise Richards.
“Steve-O is taking his dancing very seriously,” a source told
OK!. “He's committed to leading a healthy, wholesome life, and that includes mastering the classic moves of dance!”
This marks Steve-O's latest effort to redeem himself in the public's eye. Since 2002, he has been involved in various legal problems and controversies, including an arrest on obscenity, smuggling drugs, swallowing a condom containing cannabis to get it past the authorities, urinating on potato chips in public, tucking his penis between his legs and doing a back flip during a concert, and an alleged suicide attempt which prompted his family and friends to force him into the Thalians Mental Health Center.
Although Steve-O's participation on
Dancing with the Stars is almost certain, fans should check out the "All Night Name Drop" event on ABC, airing this Sunday, February 8 at 8pm ET/PT in which host Tom Bergeron will be announcing the official cast list in interstitials throughout the network's prime-time programming, which includes
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, and
Brothers and Sisters.
