Mario Lopez was born on October 10, 1973 in San Diego, California. Lopez reached celebrity status when he appeared in the popular teen sitcom,
Saved by the Bell, on which he portrayed the hunky and chauvinistic jock, AC Slater. His other television credits include The Animal Planet's
Pet Star, ESPN2's
ESPN Hollywood,
Pacific Blue, The Other Half,
The Bold and the Beautiful and
Nip/ Tuck. He studied at Chula Vista High School, where he excelled as a member of the wrestling team. He was briefly married to former Miss USA, Ali Landry.
Aside from acting, Lopez has always displayed great talent and passion for the art of dancing. In 2006, he was able to show off his skills on the dance floor, as he became a participant on the ABC reality series,
Dancing with the Stars. He was partnered with
Karina Smirnoff, and together, they were one of the toughest teams to beat. Lopez and Smirnoff made it all the way to the Top 2, where they competed against the tandem of former NFL football player
Emmitt Smith and dancer
Cheryl Burke, and ultimately placed second.
