Clyde Drexler Biography:
Former NBA shooting guard Clyde Austin Drexler was born on June 22, 1962 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Sterling High School in Houston and was a student of the University of Houston, where he was a member of the basketball fraternity “Phi Slama Jama.” He greatly contributed to the Cougars appearances in the 1982 and 1983 NCAA Final Four. Drexler made it into the NBA when he was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1983. His and the team’s tremendous efforts led them to win the 1990 and 1992 NBA Finals. Also in 1992, Drexler was chosen to become a player for the U.S. Olympic basketball team, The Dream Team, which subsequently went on to capture the gold medal in Barcelona. In 1995, Drexler asked to be traded into Houston Rockets, and his presence proved beneficial for the team, as they won the 1995 NBA Finals. He retired from the NBA in 1998 and became the head coach at University of Houston. In 2004, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
